GREATER NASHUA HABITAT FOR HUMANITY CELEBRATES UN WORLD HABITAT DAY

Nashua – Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity is proud to join the United Nations, communities throughout the world, the United States, New Hampshire, and all organizations who are supporting World Habitat Day in their efforts to “reflect on the state of our towns and cities and the basic right of all to adequate shelter.”  World Habitat Day will take place on Monday, October 5, 2009.

Public Relations Chairman Ed Lopez stated that “the Nashua affiliate of Habitat for Humanity and its President, Jerry Harrow, have been particularly busy over the last few weeks raising awareness of the need for adequate shelter in the Greater Nashua area”.

World Habitat Day takes place every first Monday of October and has been designated as the day for the entire world to reflect on these issues.  Over the last few weeks Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity has intensified its efforts to increase its pool of applicants for home ownership.  The organization anticipates building three homes between 2010 and 2012.  The organization has also hosted events in the area since the spring to help Greater Nashua area residents understand their efforts in the community – this included a publicity campaign celebrating a local family’s partnership with the organization that reached its 10-year anniversary in May, as well as a Community Fun Day at Greeley Park.  The neighboring Manchester affiliate of Habitat for Humanity is hosting a Deborah Wyndham Concert on October 4th to celebrate World Habitat Day.

Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate poverty housing and homelessness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.  Habitat for Humanity invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to build houses together in partnership with families in need.

Habitat to Recruit Volunteers, Register Hikers at Pheasant Lane Mall

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Dear Volunteers,

Tomorrow the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity will have a station at the Pheasant Lane Mall and we encourage you all to stop by.

Take A Hike For Humanity

There will be registration materials for Take A Hike For Humanity at the table.  The Take A Hike For Humanity event is taking place on May 30th and 31st and we have already had great success registering teams and individuals to the Hike.  You can read more about the Hike and even register online here: www.takeahikeforhumanity.org.  We want to see as many teams come out and support Habitat by participating or pledging to other teams and individuals on the Hike.

We will also have 8′ 1/2″ by 11′ sized posters advertising the event and we are looking for volunteers that can pick some up and post them in college dormitory rooms, college campus buildings, apartment complexes, churches, businesses and retail establishments, etc.  If there is a store you visit frequently and you feel they would hang one up that could be of great help.  If you live in an apartment complex and can post these at entrances for each building that could help a great deal as well.

Donations

Our affiliate is about to begin building a home on Ridge Street, in Nashua.  We are seeking donations and you are welcome to stop by and drop one off.

Your gift could help buy:

  • $10 = Box of Nails
  • $35 = Roof Shingles
  • $50 = Low Flow Toilet
  • $75 = Window
  • $100 = Kitchen Sink
  • $150 = Front Door
  • $500 = Siding
  • $1000 = Wallboard
  • $2000 = Flooring

Checks can be made out to the Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity, cash contributions will also be accepted.

Volunteer Registrations

We are seeking volunteers – most specifically in these areas: construction, public relations and newsletter editing, office administrative work, and fundraising.  Volunteer registration forms will be available at the table.

Bring someone who is not familiar with Habitat for Humanity with you for a brief introduction to what we do – stop by and show your support!

The table will be located at the Pheasant Lane Mall tomorrow, May 2nd, from 10am to 5pm and will be near Macy’s.

We need your support – please come visit us for a few minutes!
