GMAC to Build House
Recently, employees of GMAC Financial Services did what many employees dream of: they rounded up, booked, and jailed their managers – to raise money for a Habitat for Humanity home here in the Greater Nashua area.

On a cold day in February, five senior managers at the GMAC Financial Services office in Bedford, NH, (as well as other “wanted” employees) were locked up. They had not committed a crime, but they were participating in a fundraiser to raise money to build a Habitat for Humanity house in the Greater Nashua area. GMAC Financial Services partnered with GMAC Mortgage and reached its goal of raising $60,000 to pay for the next house, and they are ready to provide employee volunteers to do a substantial portion of the construction of the house in cooperation with Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity volunteers. “Now that the fundraising efforts are complete for this home, we are very excited to start banging nails,” said Branch Manager Jim Fallon.
Habitat for Humanity is the major charity that GMAC has chosen to support throughout the United States. Regional offices across the country have raised funds and worked on building Habitat homes. The house in the Greater Nashua area will be the first built by the Bedford office.
Jim “The Godfather” Fallon and his cellmates had to rely on generous donations from friends, business contacts and auto dealerships to raise the money needed to spring themselves from “jail.” Bail for each “felon” was set at 10 times the dollar amount employees raised to put each manager in jail. Once tallied, total funds raised by GMAC Financial Services came to approximately $30,000, with the other $30,000 raised by GMAC Mortgage.
All that is left now is to find some land on which to build the house. Finding donated or greatly discounted property is the number one challenge of most urban and suburban Habitat for Humanity affiliates in this country. If you may be able to help us find land, please send us a note or call us at (603) 883-0295.
